1. DIMA Testimony Before the Culture, Arts, and Communications Committee (Chile)

DIMA President and CEO Graham Davies recently testified before the Chilean Chamber of Deputies’ Culture, Arts, and Communications Committee regarding the “Ley Tommy Rey.” Graham emphasized streaming services positive impact on the Chilean recorded music industry, pointing to streaming as the driving force for growth of the sector. He also cautioned against pursuing policies that could have unwarranted and unintended consequences on the Chilean digital and music ecosystem. Consideration of the “Ley Tommy Rey” remains ongoing in Chile, and DIMA will continue efforts to improve the legislation and ensure that it better achieves its goal of promoting the recognition and protection of Chilean artists.

2. Presentation before the CRTC: Market Dynamics Consultation

In early July, DIMA appeared before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to present DIMA’s view in the agency’s Market Dynamics Consultation. The remarks come as part of DIMA’s ongoing work in Canada to champion the Canadian music success story, and warn against policies that jeopardize Canada’s leadership in the global music industry. Graham reminded the Committee that “Canada stands as the 8th largest record music market globally,” and emphasized streaming’s role in tearing down barriers for creators and music lovers.

3. DIMA and Members Support Special Episode of Top Podcast: “And the Writer Is…with Ross Golan” featuring Rodney Jerkins

In June, DIMA joined forces with member companies Amazon Music and YouTube, and the Songwriters of North America (SONA) to sponsor multi-platinum songwriter Ross Golan’s popular “And the Writer Is” podcast. The podcast recording took place in front of a live audience at Amazon Music’s Brooklyn office and featured an interview with the legendary Rodney Jerkins (aka “Darkchild”). The discussion covered a range of topics, including why Rodney Jerkins never wants to stop working in music. DIMA was proud to take part in this event.

4. Congressional Hip-Hop Resolution Supported by DIMA

In response to a U.S. Congressional resolution introduced in August by Senators Schumer and Cassidy, and Rep. Kamlager-Dove, to recognize and celebrate the legacy and ongoing impact of hip-hop, DIMA President and CEO Graham Davies said:

“Hip-hop has been a powerful force for storytelling and cultural expression since its origins in the Bronx, New York. Today, it stands as a defining pillar of American culture and one of the most streamed genres worldwide. We’re proud that streaming empowers hip-hop artists to share their voices and creativity with a global audience. We welcome the introduction of this resolution to recognize Hip-Hop Celebration Day, Hip-Hop Recognition Month, and Hip-Hop History Month.”

5. “Your Morning Coffee” Podcast – A Conversation with DIMA’s Graham Davies

DIMA’s Graham Davies joined Jay Gilbert of “Your Morning Coffee” for a wide-ranging discussion on the state of the music industry, new DIMA research, and a look at what’s ahead for DIMA.

Graham talked about DIMA’s remit, and it’s expanded international engagement, saying,

“Since I have been at DIMA, we have seen the opportunity to speak on behalf of our members across a wider range of issues, but also across bigger territories. So, now we see ourselves as the voice of music streaming in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.”
