Statement on The MLC Budget Agreement
Agreement Again Grants The MLC’s Full Funding Level Request
Washington, D.C. (June 1, 2023) – Digital Media Association (DiMA) President and CEO Garrett Levin released the following statement on The Mechanical Licensing Collective and Digital Licensee Coordinator reaching an agreement to fund The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC), again, at the level it requested.
“DiMA continues to support the MMA’s goals of an improved system for songwriters, streaming services, music publishers, and fans through increased efficiency and transparency. Today’s announcement of a budget agreement with The MLC – which represents another substantial increase above previous funding levels – reflects the services’ commitment to building a better system and seeking improved outcomes for affected stakeholders.
“As The MLC continues work to administer the blanket license and match and distribute royalties, we will continue to work to ensure the law is faithfully implemented to improve outcomes and serve songwriters, streaming services, and music publishers.”
