DiMA’s Global Music Streaming “Top 2023” Songs Showcases Increased Diversity of Fan Choice Across Nationality, Genders and Genres

Washington, D.C. (January 8, 2024) – Global hits, country tracks, female creators, and hip-hop and Latin music collaborations mark the top trends as the streaming industry looks back on 2023. Analysis by DiMA, the global voice of music streaming, reviews year-end-data, curated playlists, and charts from its member companies – Amazon, Apple Music, Feed.fm, Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube.

The lists reflect the variety of music that listeners are seeking, and how fans are forging connections with a multitude of tracks and artists. It spotlights how Taylor Swift, SZA, and Miley Cyrus’s hits drove female creators to the top of every platform’s charts. Music fans also showed their dedication to Morgan Wallen, Peso Pluma and 21 Savage, highlighting a range of genres to make for a diverse 2023.

Additional findings from the review of the year-end lists of DiMA member companies include:

  • Fans showed their love for Latin music for a fourth consecutive year, streaming Peso Pluma, Eslabon Armado, Grupo Frontera, and others throughout the year. The combination of immense talent and the access provided by streaming continue to bring new listeners to the genre from around the world.
  • Country music is embraced by listeners, with Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks in 2023. This genre is gaining global recognition across streaming platforms.
  • Streaming empowered fans to discover new music and genres. Afrobeats tracks like Rema’s “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez have found a growing fan base and mark a new level of popularity for music from African artists on streaming platforms.
  • Taylor Swift broke streaming records in 2023, with fans discovering and rediscovering music from all of Swift’s eras. This surge, kicked off by the Eras Tour, saw Swift’s streams jump 61% globally, bringing more listeners to platforms.
