1. Spotlight: Mondo NYC 2023
Sally Rose Larson, Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs, DiMA; Russ Crupnick, Managing Partner, MusicWatch
DiMA’s Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs Sally Rose Larson sat down with MusicWatch’s Russ Crupnick in a fireside chat at Mondo NYC to unpack new data on how streaming became America’s most beloved music listening format. The discussion, titled ‘Living the Stream’, focused on how streaming’s capacity for discovery and successful recommendations is overwhelmingly appreciated by listeners of all types:
- Streaming is the #1 source of music discovery and rediscovery, with listeners of all ages taking advantage of streaming’s endless shelf space.
- 95% of streamers listen to music that is recommended to them, creating more listening time.
- 85% of streamers react positively to specific recommendations, with a majority listening to new artists and genres.
The conversation also introduced a breakdown of listeners into five different categories based on listening behavior, demographics, and psychographics. The data for these segments show that no matter what kind of listener you are, streaming adds unique value to your music experience. Understanding how different listeners value streaming means platforms can account for each group’s needs as they continue to innovate.
Keep an eye out for more data on these segments and what they mean for streaming later this fall.
2. Tune In: Country Music Month
In celebration of Country Music Month, DiMA took a moment to revisit our Streaming Country Music Forward report from earlier this year. The report highlights the connection between artists making incredible music, fans who just might be the most loyal music listeners around, and the technological innovations that have paved new pathways to success and engagement for country artists. Since the report’s release, country music has continued to top the charts and capture the hearts of listeners. Reporting from Billboard shows country music consumption increased 20.3% in the first half of 2023, in part from the genre’s success on streaming platforms. Continue the celebration by tuning in to the report’s accompanying playlist on your favorite streaming service.
3. Let’s Celebrate: 2023 SONA Warrior Awards
Every year, the SONA Warrior Awards recognize the achievements of those in the music industry who use their platform to advocate for songwriter rights while excelling at their craft. The 2023 SONA Warrior Award Honorees include Rissi Palmer, Allee Willis, Elizabeth Matthew, and Justin Tranter. DiMA was proud to support the 2023 SONA Awards and congratulate the honorees on their achievement.
