Overview

The VP, Government & External Affairs is responsible for leading the advocacy efforts of the Digital Media Association. This role aims to influence policy decisions and legislation that can impact the world’s leading music streaming companies in the key territories where DIMA is active. The role supports the development and implementation of external relations and communications strategies that will enhance the organization’s reputation, strengthen relationships with key policy makers and industry representatives and drive advocacy efforts.

Reports directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities

 Policy and Advocacy

  • Lead advocacy efforts to influence policy decisions and legislation that impact DIMA and its member companies.
  • Develop and implement political and policy strategy, and support initiatives, including but not limited to translating the business and innovation implications of public policy developments into policy objectives.
  • Proactively work with policymakers (nationally and internationally), external stakeholders, and member companies to advance key legislative priorities.
  • Attend and organize briefings and events.
  • Draft, edit, and review letters, talking points, testimony, and other policy documents.
  • Identify opportunities for engagement, third party and coalition engagement.
  • Track and analyze legislation in coordination with legal.
  • Support the coordination of management for all contract lobbyists, Public Affairs/ Government relations firms, and external advisors across all of DIMA active territories.

Public Relations & Communications

  • With support from external consultants, coordinate the development and implementation of public relations campaigns to enhance visibility, manage reputation, and promote key initiatives.

Events & Partnerships

  • Support the delivery of the DIMA events strategy.
  • Represent DIMA as appropriate at industry events.
  • Identify and support strategic partnerships with external organizations, coalitions, and influencers to amplify the organization’s reach and impact.
  • Develop ideas for joint engagement with external stakeholders and member companies.

Research

  • Support the coordination with consultants / experts to identify priority areas for research and develop proposals, define contours, and coordinate throughout project lifespan.
  • Support the delivery of reports including coordination of design and production.

QUALIFICATIONS

DIMA is seeking a Vice President, Government and External Affairs, to lead its government affairs and advocacy work. The role reports to the CEO, and is based in Washington, D.C., with some travel as needed.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience, including roles such as work in the U.S. Congress, federal agency, trade association or consultancy.
  • Experience working on entertainment, technology and media policy, with a particular preference for experience in the music industry.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating successfully with multiple teams.
  • Excellent judgement, research skills, and attention to detail.
