Let Canadians Choose: DIMA Responds to CRTC Discoverability Decision

May 22, 2026 | Filings & Letters

“Canadians, not the CRTC, should decide what music they discover and enjoy.

Music streaming services have helped Canadian artists reach global audiences while giving listeners unprecedented choice and accessibility. Canadian consumers are already overwhelmingly satisfied with their ability to discover Canadian and Indigenous music on these services.

The Digital Media Association (DIMA) is reviewing the impact the CRTC’s discoverability framework may have on our members, the music creators they support, and the millions of Canadians who enjoy music streaming services every day. The CRTC has again put the cart before the horse by outlining a discovery framework before concluding the audio policy process. As we have said many times before, the CRTC’s implementation of the Online Streaming Act risks undermining innovation, consumer choice, and investment in Canada’s digital music landscape.”
